Raven’s Jig – Concerning Hobbits

The challenge with this one was straightforward: pay the best homage possible to the introduction scene for the Hobbits in the first Lord Of The Rings film. We tried to make this song sound as “green” and peaceful as possible. The lyrics which we added to this arrangement are also inspired by Bilbo’s narration over the ‘Concerning Hobbits’ scene.

Lyrics:

We’ve been living and farming
In the four Farthings of the Shire
Gazing upon our grass growing
Everyday for hundreds of years

We ignore and are ignored
By the world of the Big Folk
Neither renowned as great warriors
Nor among the wise
We must seem of little importance, Middle-earth being
Full of strange creatures
Among them we must look quite small after all

We don’t care for anything
But peace and quiet at any cost
‘Tis where our hearts really lie
Our own home is what we cherish the most

And this is how, I’m telling you my friends,
This is how we have and will forever live

In the great Big Folk world
We all live in piece

We’ve been living and farming
In our beloved home of the Shire
For you know, it is not a bad thing
To celebrate a simple life
